Where Are Screenshots Saved on Windows 10?

Where are screenshots saved on Windows 10 devices? I can’t find them anywhere.

It depends on how you have taken these screenshots. Screenshots taken via different means and apps are stored in various places on your Windows devices.

Generally, you can take a screenshot via the following methods/apps:

  • Via the PrtScn key
  • Via Win+PrtScn
  • Via Snip & Sketch app
  • Via Snipping Tool
  • Via Xbox Game Bar
  • Via third-party screenshot apps

Move on and check where are Windows screenshots saved via these means.

Via PrtScn

  • on your clipboard.

The pictures captured by pressing the PrtScn key will only be temporarily copied to the clipboard and will be overwritten by new copied info.

If the pictures haven’t been pasted to any picture editing tools and saved manually, they won’t be anywhere on your Windows 10 device.

Via Win+PrtScn

  • C:\Users\[Username]\Pictures\Screenshots

*Replace the [Username] here with the actual username of your Windows 10 device.

Via Snip & Sketch/Win+Shift+S

  • on your clipboard.

Similarly, screenshots taken via Win+Shift+S will also be temporarily “saved” to your clipboard, and you have to manually save it as a file first then it will be stored on your device.

Via Snipping Tool

  • C:\Users\[Username]\Pictures\

*Replace the [Username] here with the actual username.

Snipping Tool automatically asks you to save your captures before exiting the app. By default, your snips will be stored in the Pictures folder. If you have saved the screenshots, go and find them there.

Via Xbox Game Bar

  • C:\Users\[Username]\Videos\Captures

*Change the [Username] here with the real username.

Xbox Game Bar allows you to take screen captures on the Xbox Game Bar user interface, or by pressing Win+Alt+PrtScn. The captures will be stored in the Captures folder under the Videos folder together with the screen recorded videos.

Via Third-Party Screenshot Tools

  • [Driveletter]:\[Appname]\Screenshots

*The file paths/directories vary with apps. Please go to the folder of the screenshot app you use and see if there is a Screenshot folder.

Some users also use third-party screenshot apps for more advanced and handy features, for instance, iTop Screen Recorder offers screen recording as well as useful and customizable screenshot features.
