The Easiest Way to Record Your PC Screen
Recently, I updated my system to Windows 11. Does Windows 11 have a built in screen recorder? Or do I have to install a third party program?
Yes, Windows 11 comes with built-in screen recording tools, so you don't need to install third-party software unless you want advanced features. There are two main tools to choose from:
Xbox Game Bar is a gaming overlay built into Windows 10 and 11 that allows access to various features while gaming, including screen recording.
You can call out this versatile toolbar by pressing Windows + G. Then, click the record button in the Capture widget, or press Win + Alt + R to start recording. Xbox Game Bar can record both your screen activities and microphone audio simultaneously, but it cannot select recording areas, and cannot directly record the File Explorer or desktop.
Snipping Tool, a lightweight screenshot tool built into Windows, has been updated with screen recording capabilities in its latest version.
You can open Snipping Tool from the Windows search bar, then click the video camera icon to switch to screen recording mode. Then, click the + New button in the upper left corner to get started. The advantage of Snipping Tool is that it can select a specific area to record and save it in MP4 format.
Overall, Windows 11 provides users with two built-in ways to record screens, and you can choose the right tool according to your usage scenarios. If you need more control, a third-party app offers more flexibility. iTop Screen Recorder is a worthwhile choice.
